24th Annual 'QUEENSBORO' 'GOLDEN ARM' AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS SET FOR ROCKAWAY

ROCKAWAY BEACH, QUEENS, NY. June 21, 2001. The Chamber of Commerce of the
Rockaways and The City of New York Parks and Recreation have joined forces to
present the 'Queensboro' Golden Arm Amateur Championships to be held at Rockaway
Beach on SUNDAY JULY 15, 2001 on the boardwalk's Main Stage at 116th Street.
Weigh-in and registration begins at 11am and Start Time is 2pm. Free Admission
and Free Entry Fee to all first time beginners at the beach. This 24th Annual
'Queensboro' Championship is part of the SummerFun 2001 Program of Rockaway and
Sponsored by The Chamber of Commerce of the Rockaways and BBC.
There are up to 12 weight classes for both men and women. Spectators can
watch the arm wrestlers flex their muscles as beginners and amateurs compete for
the 'Queensboro' titles. Plus, as a featured event an 'OPEN PRO' Contest will be
held for Men.
Custom Arm Wrestling Awards will be given for first, second and third place
in each weight class and a 'Best in Queens' male and female MVP will be
crowned. Since there are no residency requirements 'out of towners' will
compete, as well. All award winners will qualify for the October 11, 2001 NY
'Golden Arm' Series EMPIRE STATE Finals at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in
Midtown, Manhattan.
The New York 'Golden Arm' Series consist of ten Preliminary Championships and
Finals. These events are each year at major festivals, fairs, racetracks,
beaches and major tourist attractions in each of the five boroughs, Long
Island, and upstate New York. The series has won a following among
demographically diverse, multi-ethnic, health and fitness conscious New
Yorkers.
The New York Golden Arm Series events held this year include the June 30,
2001 'Bronxboro' at Orchard Beach, the August 4, 2001 'Kingsboro' at Coney
Island Beach, the July 8, 2001 Long Island 'Golden Arm' Championships at Long
Beach the August 19, 2001 Long Island Sit-Down Pro Championships in Shirley, LI.
and the Sept. 16, 2001 Manhattan Championships at the Columbus Avenue Festival.
An event is also scheduled for Staten Island but is not finalized at this time.
The NYC Big Apple Grapple '25 Pro Championships are scheduled for The Top Of The
World Trade Center Observatories, March 2002.
The NYAWA is a New York State registered not-for-profit organization, that is
will celebrate its 25th Anniversary next year. During its long history it has
worked closely with the City of New York Parks and Recreation, as well as
with many sponsors, charities, civic and community organizations to present
arm wrestling events for adults and children of all ages.
