Australian
Armwrestling
Federation Formed
By
Richard Aplin
On Thursday, the
15th of March we officially founded the Australian Armwrestling Federation. We
used Roberts Rule with Rick taking minutes. We elected Neil Bell as the
president, Rick Powell as the Vice President, Simon Palamara as the Treasurer
and myself as the Secretary. Jerry Wade, Kevin Calloby and Darrell Mitchell were
elected as board members.
On Sunday the 18th of March (this Sunday) at 10am till about 3pm there will be a
referee-training clinic for the sport of Armwrestling in Australia. Neil Bell
will be running the clinic. Neil is the newly elected president of the
Australian Armwrestling Federation that has just been formed. Everybody is
welcome to come along and be trained as a referee. You are also welcome if you
are just wanting to come along and find out more about the sport of
armwrestling. We will have a proper padded armwrestling table set up for
everyone to practice on while the referees gain experience by refereeing
you.
The venue for the clinic will be the exact same place where we had the meeting
on Thursday night. We are going to meet at the Sydney University Sports and
Aquatic Center also known as the Noel Martin Recreation Center inside
Sydney University on the Darlington (south western) side of the campus. To
get there you turn off City Road into Butlin Avenue. Butlin Avenue runs into
Codrington St. The center is located on the Eastern Side of Codrington Street
and is easy to find. The place is also a short walk from Redfern Station. When
exiting Redfern Station, turn left and walk West along Abercromie St (the street
in which Redfern Station is located). Turn Right at Codrington St and you will
find the center on the right.
We will be meeting in
what is formally called the "Meeting Room". The meeting room is
actually a glassed in room located right next to the pool deck. When you walk
in, tell the reception that you are going to the armwrestling
meeting in the meeting room. You will be able to see the meeting room from
the foyer as it is glassed in. The staff in the foyer should be able to
direct you to it if you get lost. If you can't make the meeting at 10 am, feel
free to turn up at a later time if you like. If you are planning to undergo
the referee training however, it is best that you turn up promptly at 10am.
